I was in the same boat (switching from FOWLR and Instant Ocean to a Mixed Reef Tank and Reef Crystals) a few months back. The biggest difference that I've noticed (besides extra nutrients) is that Reef Crystals mixes/dissolves VERY quickly compared to IO which is great if you need to make SW quickly.
